Traitors

The war seems endless. After millenia of fighting, the carnage in insurmountable. Who's side am I on? What am I fighting for? Common questions in a war that has waged for so long. It might be time to switch sides...

Tonight I am starting the process of converting my IG (yes all 6500 pts of them) to traitors. After being a loyalist for so long, (and admitedly, after reading so many stories about Traitors in the Space Wolf novels) my guardsmen have decided to defect.
Granted most of the work will simply be new paintjobs for the humans, but veterans and sergeants will be getting the full mutie' makeover. I have a handful of Zombie heads from the fantasy range that should work nicely for a squad a warp-time veterans (or nurgle loyal vets, we'll see).
Planning on doing the ol' Beastman heads for some Khornate loyalist vets as well.
The biggest hurdle to cross is going to be colour scheme. While the veterans will be doing their own things, the platoon(s) will be sticking to a colour scheme.
So far I'm thinking a dirty yellow for the cloth, and a dark grey for armor. In my head this sounds cool...but who knows until the test model is done right?

I will post some pictures this weekend as the work begins.

Leafblower Cirtique - YTTH Article

As an IG player, I have really been wondering about all this "leafblower" business.
Anytime I have actually taken a look at the list, or the reports from people using it, I'm baffled by it. It doesnt make any sense to me. It feels like you are wasting a TON of points just to get a mediocre army. THere's none of the usual IG armor spam, and a fairly limited amount of scoring units on the board. Not to mention what seems to a be a really hit-or-miss, inflexible play style.
But don't just take my word for it. Stelek over at Yesthetruthhurts.com wrote up a full critique that, love it or hate it, makes for a great read.

Space Wolves vs Orks, 500pts "Coming in Hot"

So this past week has seen a TON of test games for my new Space Wolves.
After playing IG for so long, it has taken some serious getting used to. I was given many a sound thrashing from my brother's Orks over the week (6 or 7 losses in a row, yikes!).
I have been meaning to do a batrep so I'll give it a shot now, from memory. No pictures unfortunately this time as the camera is out of commission.
So I have tweaked the original list, and gave it a run last night. The results? Well see for yourself!

Space Wolves Painting - Part 2

After my last painting update, I had just gotten the armor color to a place I was happy with. So I had 22 wolves with no details. Well the past couple days have had me working out the specifics on some colors, and I'm ready to show off those same models, finished. (Still not based, don't get too excited)
So, without further ado:

Space Wolves 500pts - ToMG list

In the interest of starting a new Space Wolf army, I am joining my local gaming group in playing through a "Tale of Many Gamers"-style campaign. The idea is that we start out with 500 pts and in each round increase that volume with the goal of eventually collecting 2500 pts of our chosen army.

So for round one, I had to come up with a 500 pt Space Wolves roster with an FOC consisting of only 2 Troop choices and one HQ choice.  I will admit, not a difficult task.

HQ -
Rune Priest

TROOPS -
10x Grey Hunters
     - 2x Plasma Gun
     - Mark of the Wulfen
     - Power Weapon
     - Wolf Standard

10x Grey Hunters
     - 2x Plasma Gun
     - Mark of the Wulfen
     - Power Weapon
     - Wolf Standard

That's it!
After a couple test-plays (against Eldar, Orks, and Chaos Marines) they've gone 4-1.
At this points level, that Rune Priest is practically cheating! With his 24" nullify range (4+) he completely pulls the rug out from under the Eldar's Doom and Guide, etc. And Jaws in a 500pt game can leave just about anyone flat on their back.  All in all I'm quite satisfied!
What's next on the list? Let's find out!

Painting the Wolves

As promised, here are some in-progress shots of my new Grey Hunters.
There is still a lot missing, as I am waiting to get a couple of pots for the detailing. (Dwarf Bronze in particular)
Anyhow... Check them out, and stay tuned!
