Space Wolves vs Orks, 500pts "Coming in Hot"

So this past week has seen a TON of test games for my new Space Wolves.
After playing IG for so long, it has taken some serious getting used to. I was given many a sound thrashing from my brother's Orks over the week (6 or 7 losses in a row, yikes!).
I have been meaning to do a batrep so I'll give it a shot now, from memory. No pictures unfortunately this time as the camera is out of commission.
So I have tweaked the original list, and gave it a run last night. The results? Well see for yourself!

The table was set up, and we rolled up Seize Ground - ended up with 4 objectives on the table. On exactly 12" off of my table edge, tucked behind a cluster of trees, another toward my side in a ruined tower. He had placed one in a clearing in front of a ruined 2 story building, and another on a hill just to his side of the center line.  I won the roll-off, but the Orks were able to seize the initiative.

DEPLOYMENT:
Orks deploy 12 'Ard Boyz and the Big Mek in a Trukk just to the north of center in his deployment zone. He kep his 20-boy mob in reserve, earger to rage onto the battlefield at a moment's notice.
I placed my 10-man pack of Grey Hunters as close to the "tree objective" as possible, leaving my other pack in reserves, ready to burn in first turn.

TURN 1

The Ork Trukk rumbles forward toward the hill objective, a seemingly easy target.Approaching the objective, the Trukk and it's passengers are delighted to find that this hill is uncontested, and should be an easy place to hold. Despite urging by it's driver, however, the Trukk just doesn't move fast enough to get there turn 1.  The 'Ard Boyz remain inside their transport.

In the distance, the 10-man squad of Space Wolves slows their march behind a patch of trees. The scent of Orks is on the air. Putting in a call for fire support, the pack digs in, unwilling to let green skin shake them from their position. Recieving the coordinates from the scouting pack, the 6-man squad of Grey Hunters and the old Rune Priest enter the field via drop pod, well ahead of their battle-brothers. Claiming an objective near the old ruined 2-story structure, and within sight of the Ork Trukk. Upon exiting their pod, the automated Storm Bolters took aim against the side of the Trukk, shaking the vehicle and it's passengers.

TURN 2

Where there's Orks... there are always MORE Orks. Just on the opposite side of the ruined structure from the Drop Pod pack, 20 Ork Boyz, led by a very large Nob wielding a power claw, entered the field. Smelling the scent of beakies on the air, the charge around the corner of the building, roaring and chanting, blades and firearms ready to tear into human flesh and claim trophies of the day. Despite all of their bravado, however, the Boyz were unable to charge far enough, and fell short of an assault on the pack. The Trukk driver tried frantically to regain his composure and return his position behind the wheel after the Storm bolter fire had shaken him out of it.

Seeing what appeared to be an endless see of green come tumbling around the corner, the Drop Pod Squad readied their weapons and took aim, taking a few step backward in order to brace themselves for the oncoming Ork Storm..  The Rune priest raised his weapon, and split the earth before him, sending the Ork Nob and 3 boyz tumbling into the bowels of the planet. As if on cue, the Space Wolf bolters sprang to life, claiming 3 more greenskins. In the distance, the 10-man pack could hear combat, and readied themselves for what would surely come their way.

TURN 3

Lumbering up from behind the leading Orks, a mighty Deff Dread crashed into the battle zone, making a bee-line for the Space Wolf Dop Pod.
The 'Ard Boyz Trukk roared back to life, and continued to push forward toward its objective on the hill, dumping it's cargo to cover the hill.
The mob of Ork Boyz continued to rush in on the objective held by the Drop Pod squad. They moved as if they hadn't even realized their comrades had fallen. Slugga and shootas blaing, they opened fire on the Space Wolves, but the ancient ceramite armor they wore did it's job for all but one of the Grey Hunters. The Orks abondoned their shooting and decided to do things the way ol' Gahz intended and crashed in on the Wolves.  The steadfast training of the wolves however paid off, and they were able to make a counter attack. Empowered by the ancient banner they carried with them, the small band of Space Wolves was able to claim 10 greenskin lives in hand to hand combat.
Reeling from the attack, one bold or stood out from among the rest and took down one of the marines with his own hands, tearing the Wolf limb from limb. Despite his courageous effort, however, the Orks soon realized they had bitten of more than they could chew, and were run down upon retreat.

Back at the cluster of trees, the 10-man Grey Hunter pack got into a position to fire from cover on the Orks that now occupied the hill in front of them, but found them to be just outside the range of their high-powered plasma guns.
Empowered by the impossible victory they had won, the Drop Pod squad turned their attention to the oncoming Deff Dread.  The Rune Priest called upon the powers of Living Lightning, and sent several electric bolt careening from the skies into the armored menace. An onslaught of sparks and sound filled the area, and as the smoke cleared, all that remained was a pile of scrap.

At this point, the Orks felt that victory was an impossibility, and retreated.
A victory for the Sons of Russ!

Post Game Thoughts:
The game unfortunately ended prematurely due to forfeit. I would have liked to see it continue further, and put the Wolves into CC with the 'Ard Boyz for the sake of science.
The Orks played well, but were not favored by the dice gods this time.
The MVP's for my army this time have got to be (obviously) the drop pod squad. In such a small points game, the ability to drop a high-powered squad right where I need them that early is invaluable.

We will play again, and next time, I'll be sure to get pictures.
